SMS Terms & Conditions
These SMS Terms & Conditions govern participation in Edvise’s university-sponsored student-support messaging programs.
Effective Date: February 1, 2026
1. Program Overview
Edvise operates SMS-based student-support messaging programs on behalf of partner colleges and universities. By enrolling in an Edvise-sponsored university SMS program, you agree to receive recurring informational text messages related to academic advising, campus resources, student success initiatives, appointment reminders, well-being check-ins, and responses to your inquiries. These messages are designed to support students in navigating university services and are not promotional or advertising in nature.
Participation in the program allows students to receive proactive outreach as well as engage in two-way messaging. Message content may include links to institutional resources, scheduling information, contact information for advisors or offices, and follow-up responses based on your engagement. The program is intended solely for student-support purposes and not for marketing campaigns.
2. Enrollment and Consent
Enrollment in the SMS program requires affirmative consent. Students may be invited to enroll through SMS confirmation flows or other authorized university communication channels. Where enrollment occurs via SMS, students must reply YES to a confirmation message requesting enrollment in recurring informational text messages. Only individuals who provide affirmative confirmation are enrolled.
Consent to receive SMS messages is not a condition of enrollment, academic standing, employment, or access to university services. You may decline enrollment or withdraw consent at any time. We maintain timestamped consent records and related audit logs to support compliance with applicable telecommunications and privacy regulations.
3. Message Frequency
Message frequency varies based on institutional programming and your engagement with the service. Typical frequency is approximately 1–4 messages per week; however, additional messages may be sent in response to your direct inquiries, scheduling requests, or participation in student-support initiatives.
Messaging cadence may fluctuate during high-activity periods such as registration, advising cycles, or institutional outreach initiatives. Delivery timing is dependent on carrier networks and system availability.
4. Message and Data Rates
Message and data rates may apply according to your mobile carrier plan. Charges for SMS or data usage are billed by your wireless provider. Edvise and participating institutions are not responsible for carrier fees or surcharges.
Wireless carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. Delivery is subject to effective transmission by your mobile provider and network availability.
5. Opt-Out and Assistance
You may opt out of the SMS program at any time by replying STOP to any message. After you send STOP, you will receive a confirmation message acknowledging that you have been unsubscribed. No further SMS messages will be sent unless you re-enroll.
For assistance, reply HELP to any message or contact us at support@edvise.org. If you wish to rejoin after opting out, you may follow enrollment instructions provided by your institution.
6. Privacy and Data Handling
Your privacy is important to us. Please review our SMS Privacy Policy at https://www.edvise.com/privacy-policy.
Mobile information will not be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. We may share information only as necessary to operate the SMS program, including with participating institutions and service providers required to deliver messaging services (such as telecommunications providers). Information may also be disclosed if required by law or to protect safety, rights, or security.
7. Security, Logging, and Compliance
Edvise implements reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect SMS program data against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. These safeguards may include encryption in transit, role-based access controls, authentication mechanisms, monitoring systems, and documented operational procedures.
We maintain operational logs and consent records for compliance, audit, and security monitoring purposes. In the event of a security incident affecting program data within our control, we follow documented incident response processes and notify the sponsoring institution consistent with contractual and legal obligations.
8. Program Limitations
SMS delivery is subject to carrier filtering, network limitations, and system maintenance. Delivery is not guaranteed. This program is not intended for emergency communications. In the event of an emergency, contact local emergency services or your institution’s emergency response office immediately.
Edvise reserves the right to suspend or modify program features to protect system integrity, ensure compliance, or address security concerns.
9. Changes to These Terms
We may update these SMS Terms & Conditions from time to time to reflect operational, legal, or regulatory changes. Updated terms will be posted on our website with a revised effective date. Continued participation after updates become effective constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
